Military Bride Winner: Ashley Garza

I am so honored to be able to present our very first winner for the 2016 Military Bride $2000 Contest Giveaway, Ashley Garza. Out of all the contest entries, I found Ashley’s the most memorable. I instantly felt connected to Ashley when reading her love story and her submission on why she deserves to win. Ashley humbly states, “I find it hard to say that I “deserve” to win because I do not feel that I “deserve” anything in particular. However, the help of a wedding dress would definitely make my dream come true.” Her starting statement alone grasped my attention immediately, but it was this line in particular that confirmed she was our well-deserved winner, “I feel that by joining the military he is sacrificing for our country so I can sacrifice for him.”

On Thursday May 12, 2016 Ashley flew out from Washington for her bridal appointment with us! We blocked out about 2 hours for her appointment in which she had brought her closest family and friends. Ashley knew exactly what she wanted but kept an open-mind since it was her very first bridal appointment. Thus, after a number of dresses she selected the perfect gown to compliment her personality and most importantly, for her to walk down the aisle toward her sailor! We loved every moment with Ashley and am grateful that she represents the first of many Military Bride winners to come.

I hope we’ve said enough about Ashley to intrigue you to read Ashley & Lance’s love story.

Ashley & Lance’s Love Story (written by Ashley Garza):

I met my husband in 2013 while working at the San Jose Giants. I was a VIP deck server working two jobs just to make it through college. That day I was working on the beverage deck and he came up to me and ordered nachos. I asked him if he wanted everything on it and he replied “yes”. I asked a second time and I said “Are you sure? It’s a ton of stuff…” He replied sarcastically “Yes, and I know because I work here”. So I went ahead and made him the nachos just like he asked but instead of adding only a little bit of toppings I gave him extra just to make it soggy. ( I thought it would be funny) When he received them his eyes got huge but he paid, said thank you with a handsome smile and walked away. About two hours later I went to work on our deck and I asked a few of my coworkers if they knew who he was and they said “Oh yeah! That’s Junior he is the managers son. Why do you think he’s cute?” I told them “Maybeeeee”. To my surprise about 10 minutes later he came up to me and just started talking to me. You could tell he was nervous because he was asking me random questions. The first thing he said was “Those nachos were gross…” I replied, “I know” with a huge smile on my face. He smiled back and from there I knew he was special. We still talk about that day to this day. I am so thankful to have found him because he does not let me go a day without telling me how beautiful I am and what I mean to him. He calms me and understands me in so many ways that others do not. We wrote each other everyday while he was in bootcamp. I wrote him all together over 60 letters in 7 week period. All in which I have today with the letters he wrote me.
