Military Bride Winner: Ashley Garza

I am so honored to be able to present our very first winner for the 2016 Military Bride $2000 Contest Giveaway, Ashley Garza. Out of all the contest entries, I found Ashley’s the most memorable. I instantly felt connected to Ashley when reading her love story and her submission on why she deserves to win. Ashley humbly states, “I find it hard to say that I “deserve” to win because I do not feel that I “deserve” anything in particular. However, the help of a wedding dress would definitely make my dream come true.” Her starting statement alone grasped my attention immediately, but it was this line in particular that confirmed she was our well-deserved winner, “I feel that by joining the military he is sacrificing for our country so I can sacrifice for him.”

On Thursday May 12, 2016 Ashley flew out from Washington for her bridal appointment with us! We blocked out about 2 hours for her appointment in which she had brought her closest family and friends. Ashley knew exactly what she wanted but kept an open-mind since it was her very first bridal appointment. Thus, after a number of dresses she selected the perfect gown to compliment her personality and most importantly, for her to walk down the aisle toward her sailor! We loved every moment with Ashley and am grateful that she represents the first of many Military Bride winners to come.

I hope we’ve said enough about Ashley to intrigue you to read Ashley & Lance’s love story.

Ashley & Lance’s Love Story (written by Ashley Garza):

I met my husband in 2013 while working at the San Jose Giants. I was a VIP deck server working two jobs just to make it through college. That day I was working on the beverage deck and he came up to me and ordered nachos. I asked him if he wanted everything on it and he replied “yes”. I asked a second time and I said “Are you sure? It’s a ton of stuff…” He replied sarcastically “Yes, and I know because I work here”. So I went ahead and made him the nachos just like he asked but instead of adding only a little bit of toppings I gave him extra just to make it soggy. ( I thought it would be funny) When he received them his eyes got huge but he paid, said thank you with a handsome smile and walked away. About two hours later I went to work on our deck and I asked a few of my coworkers if they knew who he was and they said “Oh yeah! That’s Junior he is the managers son. Why do you think he’s cute?” I told them “Maybeeeee”. To my surprise about 10 minutes later he came up to me and just started talking to me. You could tell he was nervous because he was asking me random questions. The first thing he said was “Those nachos were gross…” I replied, “I know” with a huge smile on my face. He smiled back and from there I knew he was special. We still talk about that day to this day. I am so thankful to have found him because he does not let me go a day without telling me how beautiful I am and what I mean to him. He calms me and understands me in so many ways that others do not. We wrote each other everyday while he was in bootcamp. I wrote him all together over 60 letters in 7 week period. All in which I have today with the letters he wrote me.

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: SOTTERO & MIDGLEY

If you’re a bride that’s done her research on bridal dresses you may find yourself familiar with the name Maggie Sottero but let’s talk Sottero & Midgley. For those of you that’s already fallen in love with Maggie Sottero’s lace but feels like it needs a little extra “UMPH” then Sottero & Midgley gowns are made for you! Sottero & Midgley is Maggie Sottero’s second line filled with even more bolder lace but with the combination of Swarvoski crystals encrusted into its lace. The reason we love Sottero & Midgley gowns is because they offer a bold, daring yet demure look all at the same time. Yes, some of them can be heavily beaded but don’t let outer appearance fool you! Give these gowns a chance and once you slip them on you will see why there are such loyal Sottero & Midgley fans. These gowns are not designed from head to toe with sporadic beading; instead they are embedded ever so subtly into the pattern of the lace that it will give the dress just a perfect hint of glitter without overpowering the bride. Oh and did you know that the majority of Sottero & Midgley gowns will already have inner corsets for you with an outer zipper? Yep, they’re pretty amazing because they will offer you the hourglass shape that we all dream of for our wedding day without the busy lace up look!

So, have we convinced you to fall in love with a Sottero & Midgley gown yet? If not, come by our very first Sottero & Midgley Trunk Show this weekend March 4th-6th to see these lovelies for yourself. We’ll even have our reception lighting ready for you to see the hint of glimmer perfection we spoke about earlier! All new Sottero & Midgley orders purchased during the Trunk Show will receive $150 store credit on accessories to help complete your bridal look.

Dress shopping tips for our lovely pregnant brides to be...

Photography by Erika M. of "This Love of Yours"

A little birdie told us that you are expecting! Congratulations on taking in two wonderful members of your soon to be family, baby number one (aka. your hubby, babe, homeboy, etc.) and baby number two (aka. baby bump, baby on board, bun in the oven, etc.). We understand that it can be stressful planning a wedding and especially when you have to find a wedding gown for two. Do not fret, the BoLee team is here! Here are a few tips to help alleviate some stress that comes along with wedding dress shopping while pregnant.

1.  Let your bridal consultant know. Being prepared always ensures better results. Your bridal consultant would have a better understanding on how to assist you. We both know that your tummy will be growing over time and we have to consider what dresses will and will not work.

2.  Choosing a silhouette to conceal your bump. If you would like a dress that hides your tummy, an A-line or empire waist gown would do the trick. The shape emphasizes the top and creates less focus on the lower half.

3.  Choosing a silhouette to flaunt your bump. When choosing a dress that hugs and shows off your curves make sure you have plenty of room for a growing tummy. Pick gowns that have a lace-up back to allow flexibility and extra room.

4.  Always size up. You can never be too careful in going up a size. Every pregnant body is different, some tummy grow at a faster pace than others. So don’t be afraid to size up.

5.  Get the right shoes. Besides your tummy growing, feet can too during pregnancy. Walking too much can also swell up the feet. Make sure you pick something comfortable for the wedding day.

6.  Have fun! Do not worry too much. It is your wedding and weddings are supposed to be fun. Drink your apple cider and enjoy your day! At least you do not have to help ‘baby number one’ find a wedding gown.

XOXO,

Irina

Entourage Excitement

We've come across a variety of entourages from mothers and mother-in-laws to maids of honor and bridesmaids to even just fiances! Whichever loved ones you, the bride, bring with on this very special day, make sure that they...

  1. ...are here for you! It's important that your guest(s) know that the dress is ultimately for you.  Their opinions definitely matter but at the end of the day, what you want and what you are most comfortable with triumphs over anything.
  2. ...give you constructive criticism and not destructive criticism. We believe you, the bride, look absolutely radiant in the dresses but sometimes, there will be characteristics of the dress that doesn't quite make the dress "the dress" for you. Your guestsknowing you the best of allwill ideally help narrow down your choices in a positive light.
  3. ...have fun too! It'll be a little hard for you, the bride, to enjoy this beautiful moment if your guest(s) aren't enjoying themselves as well. So, entourage, go ahead and take pictures! "Ooh" and "aww" at the dresses. Clink champagne glasses and toast to the dress of the bride's dreams!

BoLee Bridal Couture 2015 Holiday Dinner (Marlowe, San Francisco)

Roasted Bone Marrow from Marlowe, San Francisco

Roasted Bone Marrow from Marlowe, San Francisco

It’s that time of the year again where we find ourselves in San Francisco exploring great eateries and enjoying each other’s company. Although only half our staff members made it out, we had the pleasure of meeting new company as everyone brought their plus ones. Of course tons of Polaroid pictures were taken, goodie bags were handed out and delicious food was consumed to the last bit. My personal favorite was the tender bone marrow and the delightful Loretta’s Vacherin, which included coffee ice cream, meringue, toasted almond and chocolate sauce (completely consumed by the time I could take a photo of it).

Anyways, enough chit chat about the food that still makes my mouth water just talking about it! I would like to take this time out to thank our wonderful staff who have helped make BoLee Bridal Couture what it is today, a 5 star Yelp reviewed business. I realized, as I watched our staff chit chatting away and giggling to one another, that we have a solid team of dedicated, hardworking, and overall genuine group of people who love what they do. That translates in our bridal appointments. The team we have now is definitely at its strongest and as the year comes to an end. I hope to see our team continue to grow and continue to create unforgettable shopping experiences for our brides.

Lastly, we would like to thank you for all the wonderful support you have shown. We hope you find yourself surrounded by your loved ones this time of the year as you would be on your wedding day. Happy Holidays everyone!

Three Tips for the New Bride-to-Be

1. Plan to purchase your wedding dress a year in advance!

Here is a fact: your wedding dress is made to order. This means that it takes most designers about 4 to 6 months to construct your carefully chosen wedding dress and to deliver it to you in all of its ivory glory. Then, you will be spending about 2 to 3 months on alterations until your wedding dress fits you beautifully. What happened to the three to six months in between? It's your cushion of course! Your dress may arrive damaged and must be shipped back or you have an unexpected event in your life or you have not yet found the perfect matching pair of shoes... Anything can happen, so leave the stress in the dust and make an appointment one year ahead!

2. Check out our Pinterest page for latest stock pieces.

Before you head on over to our store, do some research! See if we have dresses befitting to your style, venue, theme, etc. We always keep our Pinterest page updated with our most current bridal gowns in store. Some of the designers we carry are Stella York, Simone Carvalli, Pronovias, San Patrick, Robert Bullock, Watters Bride, Atelier Pronovias, and Sottero & Midgley. We also have accessories from Twigs & Honey, Sara Gabriel, TOMS Bridal Shoes, and more!

3. Never hesitate to ask us questions.

You're not sure we're the right store for you? Give us a call or shoot us an email and we'll be sure to address any inquiries or concerns you may have. Or, conveniently fill out our contact form on our website. No question is too trivial or too important!
